Riverhills Outfitting is located just outside the Town of Empress, which lies in the south-east corner of the Province of Alberta. Due east of Calgary on the Alberta/Saskatchewan border. (see map) The lodge is situated on 40 acres of traditional prairie grass overlooking the South Saskatchewan River and its surrounding hills.

Our log camp has all the modern amenities to accommodate a very comfortable stay. Home-style meals are prepared daily by our in-house chef. Special dietary needs can be accommodated upon request.

For those wishing to fly direct or charter a flight into Empress, the Town boasts a 3000ft. paved, lighted runway with a reference elevation of 2211 ft. (see airport information)

The new log lodge (pictured below) is an impressive 4200 square feet with an open design. The lower walkout level has five bedrooms sleeping two people in each, with a large bathroom that includes individual washroom and shower stalls for three. In the middle of the lower level is a common area with a pool table and dartboard for everyone’s enjoyment and pleasure.

The main floor of the lodge has a sizeable kitchen with eating area that opens to the social living area, complete with a bar and satellite T.V. There are two full bathrooms on this level, one off the common area and another attached to the one bedroom that is for the Lodge’s host, Peter McAra. The French doors on the main floor open to a 270 degree viewing deck, which boasts over 900 square feet- perfect for bird watching or simply relaxing while reading a good book. From the main floor you can access the loft of the lodge, which has two more large bedrooms with a common bathroom for the two to share. Up in the loft area are approximately another 200 square feet of sitting space that looks out the impressive over-sized windows and into the rolling hills for miles of viewing. The open design and many large windows in this lodge make the hours in the evening go by with ease while sipping a scotch and taking in the breathtaking scenery.
